Though it is preferably out of sight, your laundry room is essential for comfortable living. Discover ten tips and tricks from èggo, your bespoke storage specialist, for a practical, multi-purpose and on-trend laundry room !

1. Be smart when organising your washing machine

Yes, you have a washing machine and a dryer. But how do you arrange them in the most efficient way to optimise space and ergonomics at the same time ?

  • A compact space ? Stack the two appliances by positioning your dryer on top of your washing machine. A tip from èggo ? Stabilise the two machines by adding a support between them. Equip this with a small drawer. Once it has been opened, you can leave your laundry basket here.
  • If placed side by side, your machines have the advantage of accommodating a worktop on top. This is ideal for storing products or folding laundry while it is still hot.
  • For optimal ergonomics, place your machines side by side… and at height. This makes a huge difference for your back, which will no longer suffer when you have to bend down. Try it – you’ll never go back !

2. A clothes rack within reach

Delicate garments and dryers don’t mix well. Give them the care they deserve with a clothes rack or a simple bar fixed to the wall. You can dry silk shirts, lingerie and undergarments here. A tip ? Install this additional clothes rack near to your washing machine. This will prevent you from having to haul wet clothes from one side of the room to the other.

3. Baskets ? You never have too many !

The layout of your laundry room should be first and foremost efficient ! What could be better than pretty hampers to help with sorting laundry ? You can play around with these : add more hampers to easily separate dark laundry from colours and light garments. Choose them based on your tastes. It would be a shame not to add some visual flair, wouldn’t it ?

4. A tall storage unit for bulky items

The laundry room is very often also home to large items, such as brooms and squeegees, vacuum cleaners and, in some cases, ironing boards. A tip from èggo ? A tall storage unit. Your storage specialist will help you and suggest a number of small solutions and accessories that will make this piece of furniture your best friend. Hooks for interior walls, steel baskets that can be attached and drawer compartments: storing towels, dishcloths and spongers has never been so easy !

5. Shelving or closed cupboards : why choose ?

Have you been dreaming of a laundry room that is both practical and visually appealing ? Combine shelving and closed cabinets :

  • Shelves are ideal for storing certain appliances that require good ventilation. An example ? Your iron or steamer. Store these in a closed space and say hello to condensation !
  • Closed cabinets, ideally at a height, allow you to store cleaning products and keep them away from children, an advantage that often goes overlooked !

6. A washing machine ? You still need a sink !

Designing your laundry room means considering every little detail. Installing a sink is one of the big advantages of a laundry room. With this, you no longer need to run back and forth between the bathroom and the laundry room: you can soak dirty clothes in it before washing them (for example, sports gear or kids’ trousers), hand-wash delicate garments or wring out a sock that got stuck in the drum of your washing machine.

8. Small baskets for neat décor

Still thinking about baskets ? Yes, they’re everywhere. This is to be expected because they’re so practical ! Make the small baskets on your shelves uniform and store small, everyday items like clothes pins, a pile of cleaning cloths or even stray socks !

9. Curtains or sliding doors : smart separation !

Separating your laundry room from the rest of your home (in particular, your kitchen) ? It’s a must ! èggo recommends installing a sliding door or curtains: visually appealing and cost effective. Furthermore, a partition limits the noise pollution caused when your washing machine is in full flow.

10. Let there be light !

A laundry room that is bright during the day but dark at night ? No thanks ! Preferably opt for open storage solutions and closed cabinets in light shades, such as white. Remember to plan for suitable lighting above your worktop, in your tall storage unit or under your wall units too : a ‘feel-good’ sensation and comfort is all but guaranteed !
