Rustic kitchens are primarily defined by a general ambience that calls to mind an English, cottage-style kitchen. One immediately feels a sense of warmth and well-being, ready to put the kettle on the stove or take a stroll through the countryside. This traditional, rustic style of cottage kitchens is brought to life by the design of the furnishings and the neutral aspect of the colouring.

The characteristics of a cottage kitchen

The most typical aspect of a cottage kitchen ? Framed doors and/or mouldings. They define the entire character of the kitchen. To complement these, one can choose button handles or rustic bars. In terms of colours, we favour warm, neutral or bright shades, such as beige, light grey or taupe, in order to maintain a warm ambience. Integrating natural materials is also an important part of a cottage kitchen. To this end, we will opt for a wood or stone worktop.

KITCHEN STORY

Jérôme and Valérie B’s kitchen

We wanted a timeless, practical kitchen that is easy to clean, with lots of storage, a large worktop, a central island and column-style cabinets. It is one of the main rooms in the house, and you feel so at ease there !

A white rustic kitchen with character

You can design a cottage kitchen with a splash of originality by taking a risk on contrasting colours, styles and materials. For example, start with white rustic kitchen furnishings. You can mix these with :

  • A completely black worktop and appliances to add contrast
  • More designer kitchen furnishings to mix tradition with contemporary flair
  • A wooden worktop or splashback to highlight the materials
